UNDERCLASSMEN OUTSTANDING AT CARLETON RELAYS

Ryan Ford and Josh Paulson won the 1500-meter run (3:56.77) and high jump (6-5), respectively, while competing as unattached athletes. Toby Henkels also won the 400m (48.78).
Three Golden Gophers also notched second-place finishes. Freshman Neil Hanson took second in the 800m (1:54.78), while freshman redshirts, Josh DoBell and Scott Ferguson were the runners up in the 5000m (15:04.15) and 400m hurdles (54.75). Vince Donahoe took fourth in the 400 hurdles with a 55.76. Michael Bialick was the second Gopher finisher in the 5000m in fifth place with a 15:13.95.
Ferguson and Travis Brandstatter each placed in the top ten in two events. In addition to the 400 hurdles, Ferguson took 10th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.37. Brandstatter took eighth in both the 110 hurdles (16.11)and the 400m (50.71).
Other Minnesota underclassmen performing well were: Erik Quam, third, 3000m steeplechase (9:41.93); Andy Kummer, third, 1500m (3:59.48); Derek Sykes, third, 110 hurdles (15.38); Joronne Williamson, fourth, 110 hurdles (15.45); Curt Schoenfelder, third, shot put (47-8 1/2); Andy Tilstra, fifth, shot put (44-11 1/2).
Jesse Madsen and Jason Owen were the only two upperclassmen to compete. Madsen took 14th in the 400 and ninth in the 200m. Owen took third in the 400 with a time of 49.85.
The Golden Gophers also had a contigent at the Texas Team meet in Austin, Texas. Results from that meet will be released as soon as they become available.
