Estes Earns Main Draw Seat at ITA Midwest Regional Championships

Clay Estes advanced to the main draw competition by winning the No. 7 qualifying spot.

Estes defeated Eric Simonton of Michigan State 7-6, 7-5 in the singles qualifying second round. He later earned his No. 7 qualifying seed by downing Erich Langenkamp from Notre Dame 7-5, 7-5. Estes will face Ball State's Chris Varga in the first round of main draw competition on Saturday.

Fellow Golden Gophers Alex Zharinov, Chris Wettengel, Avery Ticer, Manuel Lievano and Thomas Haug will also begin main draw competition. The doubles draw also begins tomorrow with four Minnesota duos taking part.
