--> The Big Ten Conference announced that Golden Gopher diver Ben Herdt has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week for his performance over the past weekend at the Georgia Invitational.

Herdt took first place in the 1-meter diving competition, beating out 13 competitors in the event. Herdt also finished third in the platform competition and fifth in the 3-meter, earning 50 of the diving team's 130 point total. The swim team competed at the U.S. Open. Herdt is coming off a medical red-shirt last season. In the 2000-01 campaign, he was a Big Ten Conference finalist at the league's championships at all three heights, earning fifth on the platform, seventh at 3-meters and eighth on the 1-meter board.

The Golden Gophers will take the rest of December off from competition and will travel to their training camps next month. The Minnesota swim team will travel to Hawaii, while the divers head to China, Jan. 2-17.
