Gophers Remain in Ninth at Big Ten Championships

UniversityThe University of Minnesota women's swimming and diving earned 59 points in day three of the 2002 Big Ten Championships to remain in ninth place in the competition with 170 points. Indiana University moved into first place with 429 points.

Junior Dana Baum was the Gophers top finisher on Friday night, taking second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.64. Baum previously automatically qualified this season in the 200 freestyle for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. Newcomer Paige Gilgan placed 14th in the 200 freestyle with a NCAA provisional qualifying time 1:50.97.

Junior Keri Hehn placed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:02.50, the third fastest 100 breaststroke time in school history.

Sophomore Juleen Rodakowski finished tenth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.56. Sophomore teammate Carol Crouthamel placed 11th with a time of 4:22.46 in the 400-yard IM.

Sophomore Megan Moore placed 14th in the 100-yard backstroke swimming the sprint in just 57.03 seconds, while junior diver Kim Bahmer was Minnesota highest placed three-meter diving competitor with a score of 437.70 points to place 13th.

The Gophers wrap up the 2002 Big Ten Championships tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 at Ann Arbor, Mich.
