Golden Gopher Men's Tennis Defeats Yale 7-0

ninSpending Spring Break in California, the Golden Gopher men's tennis team blanked Yale 7-0 in non-conference action. Minnesota will face Pepperdine tomorrow.

Minnesota won eight of the possible nine matches. The Golden Gophers swept singles with six straight wins. The nation's number-one ranked singles player Harsh Mankad defeated Yale's Steve Berke in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Berke is ranked 38th in the nation.

Also posting wins were Thomas Haug, Aleksey Zharinov, Chris Wettengel, Avery Ticer and Boris Kuharic.

In doubles, Zharinov and Ticer improved to 10-2 on the year with their win at No. 3 doubles. Manuel Lievano and Reven Stephens posted the other win at No. 2. Haug and Mankad were defeated at No. 1 doubles.

Tomorrow's match vs. Pepperdine will likely feature a match between No. 1 Mankad and Al Garland of Pepperdine, who is ranked 3rd in the nation.
