The Minnesota men's track team sent five athletes to South Bend, Indiana to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational in hopes of running the NCAA qualifying times. They succeeded in that mission after the distance medley relay team reached the standard making them the second Golden Gopher relay team to qualify for the NCAA meet in Fayetteville, Ark.

On the first day of competition the team of senior Bob Quade, junior Toby Henkels, freshman Ryan Ford and junior Andrew McKessock took fourth in the distance medley and ran the NCAA qualifying standard with a time of 9:39.61. That time is also a new school record breaking the previous record set in 1994.

On the second day of competition, the Golden Gophers had three athletes compete individually. Quade placed thirteenth in the 400 meters (48.17), while Ford placed tenth in the 800 meters. Freshman Josh DoBell placed thirteenth in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:27.80.

Minnesota is next in action March 8-9 as they travel to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete in the NCAA championships.
