Baum Earns All-American Honors at Swimming Nationals

2002Dana Baum earned her first All-American honorable mention as she placed 15th in the 500-yard freestyle with a school record time of 4:46.11 at the 2002 NCAA Championships at Austin, Texas on Thursday, March 21.

Baum, who went into the event ranked 29th in the nation, swam a career best time to advance to the consolation final and improves upon her 19th finish in the event at the 2001 NCAA Championships. Her time broke the previous record set by Olga Splichalova in 1997. The junior is also slated to compete in the 100 and 200-yard freestyles this weekend.

Newcomber Rebecca Cornthwaite placed 24th in the 1-meter springboard with 233.20 points in her first national appearance.

The Gophers continue NCAA action tomorrow, March 22 as junior Keri Hehn competes in the 100-yard breaststroke and Baum competes in the 200-yard freestyle.
