Minnesota Men's Track Shines at Drake Relays

Ryan Ford, Zach Edmonson, Andrew McKessock and Toby Henkels clocked a 7:27.69, as Illinois won in 7:25.24. The Golden Gophers placed fourth last season.

Minnesota's 4x400-meter relay team of Mikael Jakobsson, Bob Quade, Andy Wohlin, Adam Steele automatically qualified for the finals, clocking a 3:09.69. The Gophers posted the third fastest preliminary time behind Baylor and BYU.

Freshman Kevin Netzer earned ninth place clearing 6-8 ˝ in the men's high jump. Iowa State's Joey Brunkhorst claimed top honors with a clearance of 7-1 _.

On Thursday, Gopher distance runners took center stage as Mike Bialick (30:48.47) placed seventh in the 10,000-meters and Andrew Carlson (14:37.16) also took seventh in the 5,000-meters.

The Drake Relays will conclude Saturday. It will mark the 36th consecutive year that the event has been sold out on its final day of competition.
