Gettelfinger Named to District V All-Academic At-Large Team

University of Minnesota sophomore swimmer Brian Gettelfinger and junior tennis player Harsh Mankad have been named to the 2002 Verizon/CoSIDA District V All-Academic Men's At-Large Team. The Golden Gophers are now eligible for selection to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America Team.

Gettelfinger, a native of Jeffersonville, Ind., maintained a GPA of 3.84 with a major in chemical engineering. A member of the 2002 Academic All-Big Ten Team, Gettelfinger earned honorable mention All- America honors after finishing ninth as a member of Minnesota's 200 freestyle relay team at the 2002 NCAA Championships. He also placed eighth in the 50 freestyle at Big Tens, in addition to competing as a member of the second-place 200 freestyle relay team.

Mankad, the 2002 Big Ten Player of the Year, has maintained a GPA of 3.71 in his major of economics. A native of Mumbai, India, Mankad is currently the fourth-ranked singles player in the nation with a 24-4 overall record and an 8-0 mark in the Big Ten. Set to compete for the second consecutive season in singles and doubles at the NCAA Championships, Mankad's list of credentials is extensive. He is a three-time U of M scholar-athlete, the 2001 and 2002 Big Ten Sportsman of the Year, the 2000 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, a three-time All- Big Ten selection, a member of the Academic All-Big Ten Team, an Arthur Ashe Junior Sports Scholar, a member of India's Davis Cup team and the winner of the 2001 ITA Indoor Championship.
