Mankad and Haug Reach Quarterfinals; Mankad Ousted in Singles

thJuniors Thomas Haug and Harsh Mankad recorded their second upset in as many days as they reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship in College Station, Texas. The duo defeated No. 9 Nick Rainey and Ryan Moore of USC, 6-3, 6-2. Tomorrow, Mankad and Haug will face No. 11 Andrew Colombo and Mark Kovacs of Auburn.
Earlier in the day, No. 4 Mankad was upset by California's John Fruttero, 6-4, 6-3, on Friday morning in the third round of the NCAA Singles Championship in College Station, Texas.
Playing on serve, Fruttero broke Mankad at 5-4 to claim the first set by a score of 6-4. Mankad responded with a pair of breaks to take a 3-0 lead in the second set. Fruttero won the next six games to earn the upset, 6-4, 6-3.
Mankad, the nation's fourth-ranked player, finished his season with a 26-5 singles mark.
