Gopher Men Claim Musco Twilight Track Meet

runner-upThe Minnesota men's track & field team claimed top honors at the Musco Twilight IV Track Meet in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday with 137.5 points. The Golden Gophers claimed two titles and five runner-up finishes to win the 11-team field.

The Gopher 4x400-meter relay team of Bob Quade, Robb Merritt, Mikael Jakobsson and Adam Steele took top honors clocking a 3:09.26. Steele (46.15) and Jakobsson (50.10) also picked up second places in the 400- meter dash and 400-meter hurdles, respectively, each running NCAA provisional qualifying times.

Josh Paulson earned Minnesota's lone individual title, clearing 7-0.25 in the high jump, setting the meet record.

Martin Robeck placed second in the 1,500-meter run (4:47.78), while Josh DoBell also placed second in the 5,000 meters (14:32.50). Chris Dixon added a second place finish in the triple jump with an effort of 49-4.5, bettering the previous meet record.

Freshman Karl Erickson</ a> finished fourth in the discus with a NCAA provisional mark of 181-7, while adding a sixth place in the shot put (54-1). Matt Taylor also had a strong showing, placing fourth in the 200-meter dash (21.59) and sixth in the 100-meter dash (10.69).

A pair of Gophers also competed at the Minnesota Open on Saturday at the Bierman Track and Field Complex. Neil Hanson placed fourth in the 400- meter dash (50.95), while Andy Tilstra placed fourth in the discus (152-8).

The Gophers will next be in action when they host the Minnesota Last Chance Meet at the Bierman Track and Field Complex next Saturday.
