Women's Tennis Represented in Preseason ITA Rankings

Seniors Angela Buergis and Valerie Vladea are listed in the preseason ITA women's tennis rankings released on Thursday. Buergis is ranked 52nd in the nation and is the fourth-highest ranked player from the Big Ten. Vladea is rated 87th. Minnesota opens the fall portion of their schedule with the Gopher Invitational on Sept. 12 at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Buergis, a native of Frauenfeld, Switzerland, posted an 18-6 singles record during the dual meet season last year. She went 9-1 in league play en route to earning All-Big Ten honors. Buergis transferred to Minnesota from William & Mary prior to last season.

A three-time All-Big Ten honoree, Vladea was 17-8 in singles during the dual meet season and had a 6-4 league singles mark last year. This season, she will attempt to become just the second player in school history to be named All-Big Ten four times. Vladea is a native of Kitchener, Ontario.
