Mortimer To Compete At World Swimming Championships

2004University of Minnesota senior Justin Mortimer will compete for the United States October 9 and 11 at the 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships. The short course event is being held at Conseco Field House in Indianapolis, Ind., October 7-11.

Mortimer will compete in the 400-meter freestyle on Friday, Oct. 9 and the 1500-meter freestyle on Oct. 11. The preliminaries will start at 9:30 a.m. each day.

Mortimer, a nine-time All-American at Minnesota, recently won four national championships at the 2004 U.S. Summer Nationals. He took titles in the 200, 800 and 1500 freestyles and the 400 individual medleys. He was the highest point scorer among all athletes at the meet.

Minnesota opens its 2004-05 regular season on October 29 at Florida. Minnesota will host the 2005 Big Ten Championships (Feb. 24-26) at 2005 NCAA Championships (March 24-26) at the University Aquatic Center.
