Golden Gopher Men's Tennis Announces 2003-04 Team Awards

Junior Avery Ticer (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa HS) took home the Len Bailey Award for Grit and Determination for the second consecutive season. Ticer has battled injury in the latter half of the season, but has manged to compile a 23-10 overall singles record, including a 6-0 mark in Big Ten matches.
The Golden Gophers (14-9, 8-2 Big Ten), led by Head Coach David Geatz and Assistant Coach Adam Cohen, received a bid for the 2004 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships today and will head to Durham, N.C., for the first and second rounds on May 15-16. Minnesota will make its 11th straight appearance in the NCAA Championships and will face No. 33 Clemson in the first round.

Phil Brain Memorial Award (Most Valuable Player) - Chris Wettengel
Team Spirit Award - Andres Osorio
Louis Ratner Memorial Award (for outstanding contribution to Golden Gopher tennis) - Aleksey Zharinov
Unsung Player of the Year - Clay Estes
Jerry Noyce-Nike Most Improved Player - Brian Lipinski
Len Bailey Award (for Grit and Determination) - Avery Ticer
