The Golden Gopher men's and women's track & field teams competed in the Minnesota Last Chance Meet on Friday at the Bierman Track & Field Stadium. The non-scoring meet served as the squads' final preparations for next week's Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 12-14, at Purdue.

Defending NCAA champion Adam Steele ran his first open 400-meter dash of the outdoor season and posted an NCAA regional qualifying time of 46.76 seconds in winning the event.

Three other NCAA regional qualifying performances were turned in by Golden Gopher throwers, all on career best marks. Liz Alabi won the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, 5 3/4 inches. Nicole Kopari broke the 50-meter mark for the first time in the discus, landing a toss of 165-6. Curt Schoenfelder heaved a wining effort of 186-5 in the hammer throw.
