Travis Brandstatter 16th in Olympic Trials Decathlon

CalifMinnesota's Travis Brandstatter placed 16th in the decathlon at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif. on Saturday. Brandstatter, an All-American and the Big Ten champion in the event, tallied a score of 7,260 points.

Brandstatter entered the second day of the event in 18th place and moved up two places over the last five events. He posted a time of 14.97 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to start the day's competition. Brandstatter struggled in the discus, landing only one legal throw for a distance of 116 feet, 6 inches. He rebounded with a solid performance in the pole vault, clearing 14-1 1/4, and by finishing with the sixth-best javelin score of the day with a distance of 190-4. The Golden Gopher senior-to-be completed his Olympic Trials decathlon with a time of 4:43.15 in the 1,500-meter run.

Brandstatter was the final Golden Gopher to compete at this year's Trials.
