Gophers Extend Lead At Ohio State Invitational

and extended its lead in the second day of competition at the Ohio
State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. Minnesota leads with 835
points, followed by Ohio State with 556.5, Penn State with 294.5 and
Kenyon College with 284.
The Gophers began the evening with a victory in the 200 medley
relay. The winning team of

xhref="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/player.asp?
sport_id=mswim&player_id=2677">Colin Lee-To,
xhref="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/player.asp?
sport_id=mswim&player_id=1634">Neil Osten and
Igor Cerensek touched the wall in
an NCAA B cut time of 1:28.37.
Ohio State was second and Minnesota's B team was third.
In the 400 individual medley, senior
xhref="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/player.asp?
sport_id=mswim&player_id=1981">Adam Mitchell picked up his
second win of the meet. He won in an NCAA automatic qualifying time
of 3:46.15. Ohio State's Nate King was a distant second in 3:51.68.
Cerensek picked up an individual win in the 200 freestyle, winning
in a an NCAA B cut time of 1:37.66.

1:37.95 and Tyler Schmidt was third in
1:39.04.
Plummer was Minnesota's other individual winner in the 100
backstroke. He touched first in 48.23 and Mitchell was second in
48.66.
In the 100 breaststroke, Michigan State's Ian Clutten took the win
in 54.68 and Lee-To was second in 55.67. In the 100 butterly, Ohio
State's Joe Doyle edged Minnesota's
xhref="http://www.gophersports.com/sports/player.asp?
sport_id=mswim&player_id=1634">Neil Osten for the win. Osten
clocked a 49.32 while Doyle clocked a 49.18. Berve took third in
49.57.
The Gophers finished the evening with a win in the 800 freestyle
relay. The winning team of Mitchell, Cerensek, Schmidt and Woodson
clocked a time of 6:33.33.
In 3-meter diving,

sport_id=mswim&player_id=1987">John Schmidt led Minnesota in
12th place with a
tally of 266.40.
Competition concludes tomorrow with prelims at 11 a.m. and finals at
5 p.m.
