MTF: Andy Newman a Double Champ at Hamline Meet

aAndy Newman won both the 100-meter dash and the long jump to lead the Minnesota men’s track & field team at the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly in St. Paul on Friday. Newman crossed the finish line in a time of 10.75 seconds to win the 100 meters and added the long jump title with a leap of 22 feet, 1 inch.
The Gophers captured titles in both the hurdles events. Steve Williamson won the 110-meter hurdles in a clocking of 14.67, while Vince Donahoe placed first in the 400-meter hurdles in 53.20.
Todd Johnson added a win in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:59.17. Adam Schnaible captured the title in the shot put with a throw of 54-3.
The meet served as Minnesota’s final tune-up for next week’s Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Columbus, Ohio, May 13-15.
