Minnesota Set to Host 2006 ITA Midwest Regional

The University of Minnesota is set to host one of the nation's premier men's tennis tournaments as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Region Championships comes to the Baseline Tennis Center Thursday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-24. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at Ohio State University.

Admission to the Midwest Regional Championships is free. Results will be posted on www.gophersports.com throughout the tournament. A link to the Qualifying Singles draw is above.

In addition to host Minnesota, the tournament will feature top players from nearly 30 Division I schools, including Bradley, Ball State, Butler, Cleveland State, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, llinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Toledo, Illinois-Chicago, Louisville, Valparaiso, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Wisconsin, Western Michigan and Wayne State.

Nineteen ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the
country.

The 2006 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament, is the second of three national
championship events for college tennis this season. The first events – the Riviera/ITA Women's and Polo Ralph LaurenITA Men's All-American Championships – were held earlier this month, and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.

The ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships feature a 32-player singles field and 16-team doubles field for men and women, including: qualifiers
from the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships held across the country, the ITA National Small College champions, top performers from the ITA All-American Championships and at-large card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee. Overall, more than 7,000 players from nearly 600 schools participate annually in the ITA Regional and National Intercollegiate Championships.
