University of Minnesota freshman forward Ryan Stoa (Bloomington, Minn.) has been named the WCHA Co-Rookie of the Week, following top-ranked Minnesota’s sweep last weekend over Minnesota Duluth. Stoa was one of two Golden Gophers with four points (2-2--4) to help Minnesota to 7-0 and 2-0 wins over the Bulldogs. He shares this week’s award with North Dakota center Jonathan Toews.

On Friday, Stoa recorded his second three-point game and first multi-goal game of the season with 2-1--3. He scored UM’s first and sixth goals to push his season total to seven. The game-winner was his second of the season. On Saturday, Stoa assisted on both of Ryan Potulny’s goals in the 2-0 victory. He now has four assists on game-winning goals this season. With his four-point weekend, Stoa pushed his point streak to three games (3 -4--7) and his season totals to a team sixth-best 7-14--21.

The award is the first Rookie of the Week accolade this season for Stoa.

The top-ranked and 2005-06 WCHA Champion University of Minnesota men’s hockey team (25-6-5, 20-5-3 WCHA) opens the 2006 postseason this weekend with a best-of- three series against last-place Alaska Anchorage (6-25-3, 4-21-3) on Friday-Sunday, March 10-12, at Mariucci Arena.
