Gopher Rowing Heads to the West Coast to Face UCLA

After finishing fifth in the First Varsity Eight competition of the San Diego Crew Classic, the Bruins moved up a spot to No. 14 in the country. UCLA was fifth behind California (6: 52.10), USC (6:54.29), Washington State (6:57.83) and Notre Dame (6:58.66) in a time of 7:01.97. Wisconsin finished sixth overall in a time of 7:05.81.
Minnesota will compete in two varsity eight boats against the Bruins this weekend. The Golden Gophers are coming off a Big Ten win against Iowa. Minnesota cruised past the Hawkeyes and Wisconsin as well as nonconference foe Creighton on Lake McBride in Solon, Iowa. The Gophers won five of six events contested, including the First Varsity Eight, the Second Varsity Eight and the First Varsity Four.
This will be the fourth season that the Gophers and Bruins have faced in other in head-to- head competition. Minnesota won the First Varsity Eight race last year, but the Bruins won the 2V8 race on Minnesota's home course of Lake Phalen.
