A pair of Golden Gopher seniors John Albert and Trent Riter received great news on Tuesday; their collegiate careers have been extended after earning at- large berths to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The duo and seven teammates will represent Minnesota at the national meet in Sacramento, Calif., June 7-10.

Albert, a Bloomington, Minn., native, will compete in his third consecutive outdoor national meet in the high jump. He collected All-America honors in the event in both 2004 and 2005. Albert’s top height cleared this season is 7-0 1/2.

Riter, from Shoreview, Minn., will also make his third NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance in the 800-meter run. Riter clocked his best time in the event this season of 1:48.45 at the Midwest Region Championships.

Four Gopher individuals and Minnesota's 4x400-meter relay earned automatic berths into the NCAA field with top finishes at last weekend’s NCAA Midwest Region Championships: Aaron Buzard in the 400 meters, Karl Erickson in the shot put and the discus, Kevin Netzer in the high jump, Derek Gearman in the long jump and the relay of Adewole Adebayo, Jason Erickson, Walter Langkau and Buzard.
