The University of Minnesota men’s golf team has been invited to the 2006 Golfweek/PING Preview at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. The 18th annual Preview will be held Oct. 2-4, with 18 holes to be played each day, preceded by a practice round Oct. 1.

The Golfweek/PING Preview is held each fall at the site of the following spring's NCAA Division I Championship and annually attracts one of the strongest fields in college golf. The Gophers will be joined by NCAA Champion Oklahoma State. Also in the field are defending Preview champion Georgia, this year’s NCAA runner-up Florida, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Clemson, Brigham Young, UNLV and Wake Forest. Rounding out the field will be Kentucky, Washington and host team Virginia Commonwealth.

The Gophers will return four players from its third place national finish team next season, including All-American Bronson La’Cassie, who tied for sixth at the national championship.

Minnesota finished the season ranked 10th in the Golfstat Head-To-Head Standings with a 272-13 record against other Division I teams and a 13-11 record vs. the top 25. In addition, the Gophers finished 23rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Both rankings led all Big Ten teams.
