Urban Ljubic Named Golden Gopher Men's Tennis Assistant Coach

University of Minnesota men’s tennis coach Geoff Young announced today the hiring of Urban Ljubic as an assistant coach. A native of Ljubljana, Slovenia, Ljubic spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach under Young at the University of Denver.
“We are lucky to have Urban join our family here at Minnesota,” Young said. “He is experienced both as a coach and player. His values and priorities line up well with our vision for Gopher Men’s Tennis.”
Ljubic, 26, joined the Denver staff after a stellar three-year playing career for the Pioneer men’s team. He assisted the men’s program with recruiting, coaching and office administration. Ljubic graduated from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver with his M.B.A. in June 2005.
Ljubic earned a bachelor’s degree in international business in 2004 after playing No. 1 singles for most of his career at Denver. He earned First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2002-03 after leading the Pioneers to their best record (16-10 overall, 4-1 SBC) since turning NCAA Division I in 1998. Ljubic compiled a 43-34 career singles record despite battling injuries much of his senior season. His 43 career wins rank fourth all-time at Denver.
Ljubic transferred to the University of Denver from Lee-McRae College, an NCAA Division II school in North Carolina. He achieved a top-five ranking as a junior tennis player in his home country of Slovenia.
