Gophers Name 2007 Men's Track & Field Team Captains

Aaron Buzard, Derek Gearman, Chris Hudspith and Antonio Vega have been named the 2007 Minnesota men’s track & field team captains, Golden Gopher head coach Phil Lundin announced. All four will be entering their senior seasons this spring.
Buzard, a sprinter from Rochester, Minn., is a three-time All-American, twice in 400-meter dash (2006) and once in the 4x400 relay (2003). Last spring, Buzard was honored as the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest District Track Athlete of the Year.
Gearman experienced great success in 2006, his first season at Minnesota after transferring from South Dakota. The Lennox, S.D. native captured the Big Ten long jump title, then won the NCAA Midwest Region crown in the triple jump earning a trip to the NCAA Championships.
Chris Hudspith is a thrower from Esko, Minn., Hudspith placed fifth in the hammer throw at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in 2006.
Antonio Vega represents the distance corps among the Gophers’ team captains. Vega, an Oakdale, Minn., native, is a cross country All-American. He is also a co-captain of this fall’s Golden Gophers’ No. 12-ranked cross country team.
