Gophers Slip to Fifth at Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge

Senior Clayton Rask notched his fourth top-10 finish of the fall and senior Andy Paulson equaled his best finish of the season, but the Golden Gophers were unable to put up a strong third-round number as a team and slipped to fifth in the final standings at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge Monday at Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma, Wash.
Minnesota, which carded a combined score of 17-over par 305 Monday, finished the 54-hole event with a final team score of 896. UCLA captured the team title with a three-round score of 879. The Bruins led the tournament wire-to-wire and had three players place in the top 5 to finish six strokes ahead of Michigan State (885) and 12 shots better than Northwestern (891).
Ryan Brehm of Michigan State carded a 5-under par 210 to finish well ahead of the rest of the field. Rask, Minnesota’s top finisher for the third straight tournament, took sixth at 3-over par 219, while Paulson placed seventh at 4-over 220.
The only other Gopher to finish in the top 30 was sophomore Ben Pisani, who tied for 23rd at 11-over 227.
The Big Ten Network will air the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge on a tape-delay basis on Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. (CST).
