Minnesota freshman Curt Carlson (Maple Grove, Minn.) was named the Co-Big Ten Swimmer of the Week today by the Big Ten Conference for his performance in a dual meet with Iowa last week. Carlson won the 100 and 200 freestyle events in a 180.5-113.5 win over Iowa on Friday. He shares the award with Penn State's Pat Schirk. The award marks the second straight week a Gopher swimmer has earned the weekly conference laurel after junior Jon Roberts on October 16.

Carlson won the 100 freestyle in 46.15 and the 200 free in 1:40.68. He also swam the third leg of the 400 freestyle relay that won in 3:04.08. Overall, Minnesota won 13 of the 16 events against Iowa and finished with at least the top three finishers eight times.

The Gophers return to action when they host North Carolina for a two-day dual meet on November 2-3 at University Aquatic Center. Friday's session begins at 6 p.m. while Saturday's competition commences at noon.
