The University of Minnesota men's tennis team lost 5-2 to Wisconsin for a split in their final weekend homestand of the season. The Golden Gophers (14-7, 4-4) could not find any momentum during their final home match despite how well they played against Northwestern on Friday.
Minnesota went winless in doubles play after Raoul Schwark and Mikey Kantar fell in an incredibly close match at No. 2. The Maroon and Gold had trouble rebounding from doubles play as they lost the first three matches on Nos. 2, 3 and 5 before Raoul Schwark and Dino Bilankov won two of the last three on Nos. 1 and 6. After losing the first set to Wisconsin's Moritz Baumann, Schwark locked the the final two sets for the win in the most exciting match of the day.
Minnesota head coach Geoff Young hit on the positives when asked about today's match. "I was really happy with the effort from Raoul [Schwark] and Dino [Bilankov], and it was fun to watch the seniors on their last day at home."
The Maroon and Gold will prepare for their final regular season series next weekend on the road with matches against Illinois and Purdue before traveling to West Lafayette, Ind. in two weeks for the the Big Ten Championships.
