Delac and Cerensek Win Croatian National Titles

Former Gopher All-American swimmers Mario Delac and Igor Cerensek won national titles this week at the Croatian National Championships in Zagreb. Delac won titles on three relays while Cerensek was part of two title relays. Delac was also the runner-up in the 200-meter freestyle.
Delac, an eight-time All-American at Minnesota, clocked a time of 1:54.21 to take second, just ahead of Cerensek, who placed third in 1:54.80. Dominik Straga won the event in 1:51.80. Delac also posted a strong fourth place finish in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 51.61 while Cerensek was sixth in 52.06. Club teammate Alexei Puninski won the event in 49.16. Cerensek, a 13-time All-American at Minnesota, also posted an individual fourth place finish in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 23.78.
Delac was part of the Mladost club 400-meter medley relay team that broke the national record with a time of 3:43.89. The duo also swam legs of Mladost's national champion 400-meter freestyle relay team (3:26.15) and 800-meter free relay team.
Both former Gophers represented Croatia at the 2004 Olympic Games.
