Gopher freshman Samantha Sommers bettered her second round score by nine strokes and helped Minnesota move up one spot to finish the Lady Buckeye Invitational in 12th place with a score of 963.
Sommers posted the lowest Gopher score for the weekend with a 21-over 237 and finished in a four-way tie for 25th. Fellow Gopher freshman Teresa Puga and Mary Narzisi finished 32nd and 35th, respectively, while junior Young Na Lee finished in a tie for 53rd.
Kent State University led wire-to-wire to take home the Lady Buckeye title with a score of 21-over 885. Ohio State, Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin rounded out the top-five.
Michigan State's Sara Brown posted an even score of 216 to take home medalist honors by two strokes over Ohio State's Carling Coffing. Kira Meixner and Kirby Dreher, both from Kent State, finished third and fourth, respectively, and Penn State's Sara Lester finished fifth.
Minnesota's next time out will be on April 25, as the team heads to University Park, Pa. for the 2008 Big Ten Championships hosted by Penn State. The tournament goes throughout the weekend. Minnesota will be trying to improve on their 11th place finish from a year ago.
