Aaron Studt Wins Shot Put Title at the Drake Relays

Minnesota sophomore Aaron Studt captured the shot put title on Friday at the Drake Relays, highlighting the Golden Gophers’ competition at America’s Athletic Classic.

Studt landed a throw of 60 feet, 8 inches to become the 46th Minnesota Drake Relays titlist. The last Gopher to win a title at Drake was also in the shot put, when Karl Erickson brought home the gold in 2006.

Ibrahim Kabia advanced to the 100-meter dash final winning his heat with a clocking of 10.63 seconds. The final will be contested on Saturday afternoon.

The Gophers’ 4x1,600-meter relay of David VanOrsdel, Hassan Mead, Eddie Kibira and Chris Rombough placed third with a time of 16:56.68. Less than five seconds separated the top three teams. Notre Dame won the event in 16:51.82, while Indiana was second in 16:53.43.

Minnesota’s 4x800-meter relay of David Krueger, Hans Storvick, David Pachuta and Logan Stroman finished the day with a sixth-place showing in a time of 7:36.68.
