Baseline Tennis Center Receives National Facility Honor

The University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center has been selected as one of the top 50 “Tennis Welcome Centers” among over 2,100 tennis facilities nationwide.

The award recognizes facilities that exhibit excellent participation figures involving new and returning players, support of industry programs and community tennis development, and active participation with Tennis Welcome Center facility requirements, among other criteria. The honor is bestowed by the Tennis Industry Association, U.S. Tennis Association and the trade magazine Racquet Sports Industry. An independent research firm made the selections.

The Baseline Tennis Center was the only collegiate facility on the list and the only facility from the state of Minnesota. The center is home to both the Gophers’ men’s and women’s tennis teams and the Minnesota State High School League state tournaments. It has hosted both the Big Ten men’s and women’s championships within the past two years. The Baseline Tennis Center’s 10 indoor courts and 12 outdoor courts are available for public use year-round.

The facility opened in the fall of 2002 and is attached to Ridder Ice Arena. The entrance to the center features a Hall of Fame room with a mural and trophy cases celebrating Gopher tennis.
