Betuzzi And Massie-Martel Compete At Canadian Summer Nationals

University of Minnesota junior Ray Betuzzi posted two top five finishes at the 2008 Canadian Summer Open Nationals in Winnipeg, Manitoba July 16-19. Incoming freshman Dominique Massie-Martel also competed, finaling in one event.
Betuzzi was the runner-up in the 400-meter freestyle, clocking a time of 3:58.46, well off the pace set by winner Ryan Cochrane (3:51.93). Betuzzi also placed fifth in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:51.62. In the 800-meter free relay, Betuzzi's Calgary Swim Club team placed second in 7:26.55. He teamed with former Gopher All-American Mike Brown, who also took second individually in the 100-meter breaststroke. Brown will compete for Canada in the Olympic Games in August.
Massie-Martel took eighth in the 200-meter free with a time of 1:54.61. He posted a quicker time of 1:53.62 in the prelims. The freshman-to-be also managed a 16th place finish in the 100-meter free in 52.64.
Massie-Martel competed for Canada earlier this month at the FINA World Junior Championships in Monterrey, Mexico where he took 20th in the 200-meter free (1:53.68) and 32nd in the 100 free (52.71). He also swam legs of the 800-meter free relay and 400-meter free relay that placed seventh apiece.
