The University of Minnesota women's golf program announced today that it will be conducting walk-on open tryouts on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course.

For more information about the open tryouts please contact University of Minnesota Associate Head Women's Golf Coach Kris Wessinger at 612-624-4306 or by e-mail at pauls109@umn.edu.

The Gophers finished the 2007-08 season on a high note, as they shot a four-day combined total of 1,231 to finish in a tie for eighth place with Iowa at the Big Ten Championships. Minnesota's combined score of 1,231 is the second lowest 72-hole tournament score in school history while the eighth place finish is the highest since finishing seventh in the 2004 Big ten Championships.

Individually, freshman Teresa Puga finished sixth at the Big Ten Championships after carding a four-round total of 299 (77, 74, 75, 73), the third lowest 72-hole total for a Gopher golfer in school history. Fellow freshman Mary Narzisi finished in a tie for 23rd with a 306 (76, 78, 76, 76). By shooting 306, Narzisi tied former Gophers' Kate Hughes and Karyn Stordahl for the eighth best 72-hole total. Also, Puga (77.36) and Narzisi's (77.90) spring season averages are 7th and 12th best, respectively, in school history.

The Gophers will open the 2008-09 season on Sept. 13-14 at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
