Gopher Divers Complete Third Day At National Championships

On the third day of competition at the 2008 Kaiser Permanente National Diving Championships in Pasadena, Calif., Cole Young led Minnesota's contingent by reaching the final of the 3-meter springboard competition. Andrew Brown and Jacqueline Schroeder were also in action for the Gophers.
After finishing eighth through the preliminaries of the 3-meter springboard event with a tally of 354.20, Young ended up in 12th after the semifinals with a score of 342.15. Brown was just behind in ninth after the prelims (352.50) but fell off to 14th and just out of the top 12 finals with a semis score of 319.95.
On Wednesday, Brown led the duo with a 14th place finish in the 1-meter competition with a score of 285.35 while Young managed an 18th place finish (269.90).
Both divers will be in action over the coming days in the 3-meter and platform synchronized finals and the 10-meter platform event.
Schroeder was in action Thursday in the 3-meter competition where she advanced to the semis in 18th place with a score of 218.65. She moved up to 17th in the semifinals with a tally of 227.25 but missed the top eight that qualified for the final.
Schroeder will compete in the 10-meter synchro final and the individual platform event over the weekend.
