Minnesota men's tennis players Ishay Hadash and Julian Dehn will take part in the prestigious Sherwood Cup men's tennis tournament this weekend in Indian Wells, Calif.
The duo will be tested by some of the nation's top competition as all four of the other participating teams are among the top-ranked teams in the country. UCLA is ranked fourth, while USC is ranked sixth, Baylor is ranked seventh and Pepperdine is ranked 14th. Minnesota is unranked in the latest national rankings. Two of the top five individual players in the country will also take part in second-ranked Denes Lukacs of Baylor and fifth-ranked Robert Farah of USC.
Hadash and Dehn opened their spring seasons last weekend at the Ohio State Invitational as Hadash went 4-1 in singles play and Dehn finished 2-3 in matches against players from Ohio State and Denver. The pair also won their only doubles competition. Hadash, a senior from Israel, joined the team at mid-semester, while Dehn, a freshman from Germany, went 7-3 during the fall season.
Minnesota has two doubles teams ranked in the latest rankings as Sebastian Gallego and Dino Bilankov are ranked 22nd and Tobias Wernet and Michael Sicora are ranked 26th. Wernet is ranked 76th in singles.
The remainder of the Gopher squad opens its season with a home dual against Marquette on Jan. 30.
