Gophers Travel Full Squad to Head of the Iowa

The University of Minnesota rowing team competed in its second regatta of the fall season when they raced at the Head of the Iowa, today, in Iowa City, Iowa. The Golden Gophers had a full squad, with both varsity and novice competing in the event.
Minnesota’s A boat of Ilana Ostrin, Michele Peterson at stroke, Sarah Graham, Lucy Mulvey, Jenna Schuder, Erika Berg, Cassie Drozynski, Sarah Krueger and Rachel Sartor placed second overall in a time of 12:19.434.
The Gophers’ B boat of coxswain Sara Baldvins, Rebekah Brzozowski, Tracy Merth, Christine Beauparlant, Kathryn Switalski, Katelyn Nichols, Debbie Brzozowski, Kate Ladell and Becky Kinchen added a time of 12:57.782 and seventh overall.
The Gophers’ Third Varsity Eight of Stephanie Shodis, Teresa Logemann, Grace Lorig, Elyse Weir, Kristin Anderson, Christine Cira, Allison Fast, Quinn Anderson, Megan Lenarz finished in 12:35.934 and fourth overall.
The Gophers’ Fourth Varsity Eight of Adriana Gutierrez, Shannon Gates, Leah Rogotzke, Maddy Bourgeois, Brenna Galvin, Caitlin Boon, Nicolle Fisher, Maddy Etrheim and Laura Salzman was fifth in 12:47.094.
The Gopher varsity rowers also competed in Varsity 4+ events and had four boats. Minnesota’s First Varsity 4+ was coxswain Ostrin, Becky Brzozowski, Schuder, Mulvey and Graham as they placed second overall in 13:35.416. Following behind them in fourth was the boat of coxswain Baldvins, Berg, Drozynski, Beauparlant and Sartor with a time of 13:47.271. Minnesota’s Third boat of Gutierrez, Logemann, Merth, Ladell and Cira placed seventh in 14:00.101. The Gophers’ boat of Shodis, Peterson, Switalski, Krueger and Debbie Brzozowski was eighth in 14:11.093.
The Gophers had three novice boats, finishing third, fourth and sixth overall. Minnesota’s Third Novice boat of coxswain Emilie Sabourin, Victoria Vass, Erin Pattison, Sara Race, Melissa Ruggles, Tawnni Lasee, Natalie Foshag, Andrea Beczkiewicz and Zoe Carlton at bow led the novice corps with a time of 14:11.629 and third overall.
Minnesota’s A boat of coxswain Alicia Gruenwald, Allison Putlak, Hannah Smiltneek, Kayla Thom, Ali Haws, Morgan Dysert, Theresa Mozinski, Liz Saindon and Natalie Reker followed with a fourth-place showing in 14:23.222. The Gopher B boat was sixth overall and crossed the finish at 14:55.023. The boat contained Alexandra Basalo, Alexandria Voss at stroke, JoAnne Pohl, Jennifer VanVliet, Bobbi Soukup, Amber Lee, Alyssa Trelstad, Rachel Root and Katie Anderson at bow.
Minnesota competes again on Nov. 8 when it travels to the Head of the Lake in Seattle, Wash. It will be the final competition for the Gophers during the fall season.
