Gophers Beat DePaul to Complete Big East Sweep

Minnesota handed DePaul its first loss of the season and finished off a weekend sweep of Big East opponents with a 7-0 win over the Blue Demons on Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers had three players rally from one set down to capture singles victories in improving to 2-0 for the season, having also defeated Marquette 7-0 on Friday. DePaul, ranked 66th in the country, fell to 5-1 with the loss.
Tobias Wernet, Sebastian Gallego and Jake Annear all dropped their opening set, but came back for wins. Wernet posted a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Austin Doerner at No. 2, Gallego rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Ben Hartman at No. 3 and Anner delivered a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win over Matija Palinic at No. 6.
Ishay Hadash had Minnesota’s easiest win, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jose Moncada at No. 1. Michael Sicora and Phillip Arndt each won by 7-6, 6-3 scores with Sicora beating Alasdair Graetz at No. 4 and Arndt topping Bartosz Jozwiak at No. 5.
In doubles, Dino Bilankov and Gallego clinched the doubles point with a 9-8 win over Graetz and Jozwiak at No. 2. Their victory came after Hadash and Arndt beat Moncada and Palinic 8-5 at No. 3. The Blue Demons won the No. 1 doubles match as Hartman and Doerner bested Sicora and Wernet 8-6.
The Gophers face another ranked Big East foe in their next match when they play at 43rd-ranked Louisville on Friday.
