Gophers Hold Off Penn State for Fourth Straight Win

Ishay Hadash and Michael Sicora swept singles and doubles matches as Minnesota won its fourth straight match with a 5-2 victory on Friday at Penn State.

Hadash clinched the match victory with his No. 1 singles victory, while Sicora and Julian Dehn combined to win a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles that gave the Gophers the doubles point. The victory moved the 27th-ranked Gophers to 14-3 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten. The 53rd-ranked Nittany Lions fell to 8-8 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Hadash won his singles match 7-5, 6-4 over Brendan Lynch and teamed with Sebastian Gallego for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. Sicora and Dehn rolled to a 7-0 win in their doubles tiebreaker before Sicora delivered a 6-2, 6-2 win over Benji Kendall at No. 6 singles.

The Gophers also got singles wins from Tobias Wernet at No. 2 and Dino Bilankov at No. 5. Wernet rolled over Adam Slagter 6-2, 6-2, while Bilankov held off Guillaume St. Maurice 6-4, 6-7, 6-0.

Minnesota built a 5-0 lead before Penn State on the final two matches, clinching each with a tiebreaker victory. Eddie Bourchier beat Dehn 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 4, while Jason Lee edged Gallego 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 3.

The Gophers travel to Columbus, Ohio for a showdown with sixth-ranked Ohio State on Sunday.
