Home Sweet Again as Gophers Roll Past Indiana

Minnesota improved to 12-0 at home and knocked off its eighth ranked opponent of the season with a 6-1 victory over Indiana on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center.

The 33rd-ranked Gophers swept the doubles matches and took four straight set singles victories in running their record to 15-4 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten. Indiana, ranked 43rd nationally, fell to 11-10 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten after entering the match in a third place tie with the Gophers. Minnesota faces 12th-ranked and Big Ten unbeaten Illinois on Sunday at noon at the Baseline Tennis Center.

Minnesota’s Ishay Hadash won the featured match and tightest match of the day at No. 1 singles, outlasting 85th ranked Lachlan Ferguson in a third-set super-tiebreaker. Hadash, ranked 60th in the country, pulled out a 6-1, 6-7, (10-7) victory.

Hadash and Sebastian Gallego clinched the doubles point for the Gophers with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles after Phillip Arndt and Michael Sicora cruised to an 8-3 victory at No. 3. Julian Dehn and Tobias Wernet followed with an 8-6 win at No. 2.

Dino Bilankov gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Maxime Armengaud at No. 4 singles. Gallego added a 6-0, 6-3 win over Jeremy Langer at No. 3 and Sicora clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at No. 5. Wernet also prevailed in straight sets with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Santiago Gruder at No. 2.

Dehn suffered Minnesota’s only loss with a 6-3, 6-4 setback to Will Kendall at No. 6.
