The University of Minnesota women’s golf team recovered from a tough 18 holes during the morning session to card a combined score of 311 in the afternoon and move up to eighth place at the Indiana Invitational. The Gophers' 36-hole score of 643 is one-shot better than ninth place Illinois and five shots behind Indiana and Wisconsin for sixth place.
Minnesota started the afternoon session in a tie for 10th place after posting a score of 332 in the event’s first 18 holes. No one in the Gopher lineup was able to tame Otter Creek Golf Club, as all five players carded rounds in the 80’s, led by Mary Narzisi’s 8-over par 80. Teresa Puga added an 83 and Michele Edlin managed an 84 while Paige Bromen and Samantha Sommers both posted 85’s.
Much of the Minnesota’s lineup improved upon their scores in the afternoon, three of which posted sub-80 scores. Puga led the way with a 2-over par 74 and Narzisi carded a 77 as the Gopher sophomores find themselves in a tie for 13th place at 157. Bromen is in a tie for 38th place with a 36-hole score of 164, one shot ahead of Edlin, who sits in a tie for 41st place.
UNLV led by three shots after the first round and increased its lead to seven strokes following a second round score of 309. Iowa State is in second place followed by Texas, Michigan and Iowa in a tie for third. Individually, UNLV’s Natasha Krishna and Nicole Vandermade of Texas are tied for medalist honors with 36-hole scores if 5-over par 149.
The third and final round will be played on Tuesday, April 7 and can be followed live at www.golfstat.com.
