Gophers Finish 7th at Indiana Invite

Three Minnesota players carded sub-80 rounds on Tuesday during the final round of the Indiana Invitational to lead the Gophers to another top-10 finish. Minnesota’s combined 54-hole score of 960 was good for seventh place, three shots better than eighth place Iowa.
Teresa Puga paced the Gophers during the final round with a 4-over par 76 to secure her fifth top-10 finish of the season. Her score of 233 placed her in a four-player tie for sixth. Puga’s season stroke average of 75.48 is currently the best single-season average in the history of the women’s program. She already holds the program’s best fall season average of 74.07.
Senior Kelli Berns, playing the event as an individual, posted her second-lowest score of the season with a 236 and finished in a tie for 12th place. Mary Narzisi struggled on Tuesday with an 83 and fell to a tie for 23rd with a 240. Paige Bromen and Michele Edlin both posted 79’s during the final round to finish in a tie for 32nd and 35th, respectively.
UNLV won the team title with a score of 931, 13 strokes ahead of Iowa State and 17 shots ahead of third place Texas. UNLV’s Natasha Krishna won medalist honors with a 9-over par score of 225, four shots better than her teammate Therese Koelbaek, Western Michigan’s Elise Swartout and Kelly Louth of Texas.
Minnesota’s final regular-season tournament will take place on Apr. 18-19 at the Lady Buckeye in Columbus, Ohio. The 2009 Big Ten Championships, hosted by Purdue, is scheduled for Apr. 24-26 in West Lafayette, Ind.
