Minnesota’s Ishay Hadash advanced to the second round of the NCAA men’s tennis individual championships by knocking off the tournament’s 10th-ranked player in the opening round on Wednesday in College Station, Texas.

Hadash beat Cory Parr of Wake Forest for the second time this season with a 6-3, 7-6 victory. Hadash dominated the second-set tiebreaker by winning the first four points and cruising to a 7-1 win. It was a repeat of Hadash’s biggest win during the regular season, having beaten Parr 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 in a dual match on Feb. 20. Hadash is now 21-12 for the season, while Parr ended the year 31-10.

The sophomore from Lapid, Israel advances to face 44th-ranked Omar Altmann of Pepperdine in the second round. Altmann dismissed Florida’s Alex Lacroix in the opening round. The winner of the second round match moves into the round of 16 and a possible meeting with top-seeded Arnau Brugues of Tulsa.

Hadash was a late addition to the draw as the tournament’s second alternate. He found out he qualified late Tuesday afternoon when UCLA’s Haythem Abid withdrew. Hadash is ranked 62nd in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
