The Minnesota men’s track & field team will travel six student-athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next week. The NCAA announced its Championships’ field today adding at-large invitations to those athletes with automatic qualifiers. Gopher junior Chris Rombough received one of those at-large berths and will be making a return trip to the national meet in the 5,000-meter run.
Rombough joins five teammates who had solidified berths to the national meet earlier, either by their Midwest Region Championships performance or in-season performance in the case of the decathlon. Returning All-American Hassan Mead leads the Golden Gopher contingent and will also compete in the 5,000 meters. Other Gophers heading to the NCAAs are Aaron Studt (shot put), R.J. McGinnis (decathlon), Matt Fisher (high jump) and Ben Blankenship (1,500 meters).
The NCAA Championships will be hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., on June 10-13.
