The No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team and the Bemidji State Beavers skated to a 1-1 tie with the Golden Gophers winning the shootout in four rounds. In Western Collegiate Hockey Association, the game goes down as a tie, but the Gophers earn an extra point in the WCHA standings.
Minnesota now holds a nine-points lead (30 points) over Wisconsin and Minnesota Duluth, who are tied for second with 21 points. With the tie, the Gophers have a 17-3-3 overall record and a 13-2-2 record in the WCHA. BSU is now 6-6-5 in conference play, while holding 20 points and are in fourth place in the league standings.

She passed it to Terra Rasmussen and found Blankenship in front of the net. After being outshot 6-2 in the first period, the Gophers added the pressure in the second and outshot the Beavers, 12-4.
Bemidji State called a timeout with 1:34 remaining in the game. Once the puck cleared out of the BSU zone, the Beavers pulled goalie Zuzana Tomcikova with 57 seconds remaining. Emily Erickson scored on a scrum in front of the net at 19:44 in the third to force the overtime and the eventual tie. Montana Vichorek took a shot from the point, while Erickson was there to find the back of the net. Erika Wheelhouse added the second assist.
The two went scoreless in the overtime as both teams recorded a point, but still were playing for an extra point in the shootout. Minnesota started with Alexandra Zebro, who made her shot. BSU's Erin Cody made her shot as the two teams were tied, 1-1. After Minnesota's Sarah Erickson and Anne Schleper and BSU's Erickson and Franny Dorr, the two teams forced a fourth round. Emily West was up for the Gophers. Skating slowly into the zone, and fired a shot just below Tomcikova's glove along the right pipe for the shootout win.
It was the second shootout the Gophers have competed in this year, with the first coming against Minnesota State on Nov. 14th. Minnesota is now 2-0 during the WCHA shootout as the Gophers defeated the Mavericks, also in four rounds. Â
