Gophers Travel to Head of the Rock

The University of Minnesota rowing team continued fall action today as it competed at the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Ill. The Golden Gophers competed in both the Collegiate 8+ and Collegiate 4+, racing multiple boats in each event.
The Golden Gophers had four boats in the Collegiate 4+ race, winning the event and taking the top two spots. The Gophers’ boat of Linnea Trandem, Molly Kalmoe, Erika Berg, Cassie Drozynski and Teresa Logemann won the event out of 26 entries in a time of 17:30.17. The second overall boat also went to Minnesota in a time of 17:39.39. The second-place finishers were Sara Baldvins, Sarah Krueger, Kathryn Switalski, Leah Rogotzke and Rachel Sartor. The Gophers C boat of Adriana Gutierrez, Tracy Merth, Christine Beauparlant, Kayla Thom and Becky Kinchen added a time of 18:06.25 and eighth overall. Minnesota also had a D boat that finished 15th overall. Nicolle Fisher, Jennifer VanVliet, Alyssa Trelstad, Mikaela Rogers and Natalie Foshag clocked a time of 19:11.67.
In the Collegiate 8+ competition, the Gophers had three boats, in a field of 25 boats. Minnesota finished the day in fourth, eighth and 12th overall. Minnesota’s boat of Trandem, Kalmoe, Berg, Drozynski, Krystal Arbery, Switalski, Krueger, Rachel Sartor and Logemann at bow, finished fourth overall in 16:17.69. Minnesota’s second boat came in eighth overall in a time of 16:39.58. Rowing to eighth overall was coxswain Baldvins, Beauparlant, Merth, Rogotzke, Debbie Brzozowski, Kinchen, Thom, Kate Ladell and Ellen Hughes. Minnesota’s third entry into the Collegiate 8+ was the boat of Fisher (coxswain), Maddy Bourgeois as stroke, Alison Putlak, Caitlin Boon, Ali Haws, Arielle Flynn, Rogers, Alexandria Voss and Kristin Anderson at bow. The group of nine finished 12th overall in a time of 17:16.92.
The Gophers will take some time off to prepare for the Head of the Iowa and the Princeton Chase as the teams will split the squads on Oct. 31st.
