Gophers Split Squads to End Fall Season

SPLIT SQUADS THIS WEEKEND
The University of Minnesota will be competing in two locations this weekend. The First Varsity 8+ will head to the Princeton Chase on Sunday, while the rest of the Varsity and Novice teams travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete at the Head of the Iowa. The Gophers will compete at the Princeton Chase at 11 a.m., while from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Head of the Iowa.

LAST YEAR AT THE HEAD OF THE IOWA
The University of Minnesota rowing team competed in the Head of the Iowa last year as the full team traveled to Iowa City, Iowa. The Gophers had four Varsity 8+ boats compete in the event, taking home the second, fourth, fifth and seventh overall spots. Like the Varsity Eight, the Gophers also had four Varsity 4+ boats and crossed the finish line in second, fourth, seventh and eighth overall. Minnesota traveled its novice team as well and placed third, fourth and sixth overall.
LAST TIME AT THE PRINCETON CHASE
After a year hiatus, the Gophers return to the Princeton Chase this year. In 2009, the Gophers finished sixth overall in the Women's Collegiate 8+ event with a time of 15:29.967. Winning the event was Yale's top two boats in times of 15:12.853 and 15:13.243. Princeton placed third overall, while Boston University and Virginia's B boat held the top five times. The Golden Gophers used their own oars, but borrowed a boat from Virginia.
