The Minnesota women’s swimming team advanced a dozen swimmers to Friday night’s finals session of the Minnesota Grand Prix at the University Aquatic Center.

Senior Jillian Tyler highlighted the Golden Gophers’ performance in Friday’s prelims by swimming the top qualifying time in the 100-yard breaststroke. Tyler clocked a season-best time of 59.23 seconds in the race, her first sub-minute time of the season. Three other Gophers will join Tyler in the championship final, all with season-best times in the prelims: Haley Spencer (1:01.38), Molly Belk (1:03.19) and Lauren Greenberg (1:03.87).

Season bests were the order of the morning as four Gophers tallied their top times of 2010-11 and advanced to the 100 fly championship final: Kaylee Jamison (54.63), Annalise Colton (54.84), Megan Braun (55.33) and Kelsey Ridder (55.46).

Minnesota advanced three swimmers in the 400 individual medley, again all with season-best times: Kaela Anderson (4:18.23), Kristen Steenvoorden (4:18.34) and Hailey Szews (4:21.92).

The first Gopher who will compete in Friday night’s final will be Hannah Whitehead in the championship final of the 200 free. Whitehead swam the fourth-fastest time of 1:47.59 in her prelim.
