Andre Wilt Signs With Gopher Swimming

Andre Wilt, of Omaha, Neb., has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the of University Minnesota men’s swimming and diving team, head coach Dennis Dale announced. Wilt will join the Golden Gophers for the 2011-12 season.

The Creighton Prep senior enjoyed an exceptional junior season. Wilt won the Nebraska state title in the 100-yard backstroke by clocking a state met record and personal-best time of 50.69 seconds in the final. He was also a member of the state champion 200 medley relay and finished third in the 200 individual medley. Creighton Prep captured the 2010 state team title.

Wilt’s club swim team is Greater Omaha Aquatics, coached by Tom Beck.

“We are thrilled to have Andre joining us next year in Minneapolis,” said Minnesota associate head coach Bill Tramel. “Andre is a great sprint backstroker and I’m confident his 200 will develop nicely as well. We have had tremendous success with Nebraska swimmers coming to Minnesota such as Paul Nelson, Dan Berve and Sean Kelly. I know Andre will be the next great from Nebraska to represent the Gophers.”
