Ivan Gutesa Earns Big Ten Weekly Honor

Minnesota senior Ivan Gutesa was named the Big Ten Conference Co-Swimmer of the Week after leading the Golden Gophers to a season-opening, dual-meet victory over Wisconsin last Friday. He shared the award with Ohio State’s Zach Holmes. The award was the first of Gutesa’s career.
Gutesa captured individual wins in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events. He clocked a time of 56.03 seconds in the 100, then later posted a time of 2:02.41. Gutesa also swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay that finished in a time of 1:38.96.
Minnesota hosts a pair of dual meets this weekend, facing Iowa on Friday (5 p.m.) and North Carolina on Saturday (12 p.m.).
